In 1916 Sharon Baptist Church, newly organized with 12 members,
was admitted to the York Baptist Association. With membership being
so small, it was impossible to function as a Baptist church, so
in 1917 the church dissolved.
Again in 1938, 21 years later, Sharon Baptist Church was organized
with 11 members--among those members were Mr. & Mrs. Gordon
Wilson, Mr. & Mrs. Raymond F Hord, Mr. and Mrs. B.P. Rambo &
Mrs. Ellen Mitchell. This group of members, with new direction,
met in various places for their services until 1942. At this time
they had completed the building of a new church and dedicated this
building to the Lord the first Sunday in June. At this time the
membership had increased to 21. In only three short years this new
church was paid for and celebrated this accomplishment with a mortgage
burning ceremony.
A parsonage was purchased in March of 1950, and the addition of
an educational building came in 1957.
During the early part of 1964 several persons in the church became
interested in having a cemetery to serve the members of the church
in the future. Cemetery rules and regulations were adopted by the
church in the church conference on April 26th, 1964. Grave capacity
of the cemetery is 280 sites.
